Congressman Kenny Marchant’s eighth and final term in the U.S. House of Representatives concluded on January 3, 2021, as the 116th Congress gave way to the 117th — closing a 40-year career in public service.
Marchant represented Texas’ 24th Congressional District from 2005 to 2021. Throughout his tenure he served on the House Committee on Ways and Means, where he focused on tax policy, trade, and retirement security, and in the 116th Congress he served as the top Republican on the House Ethics Committee. His legislative efforts included votes to repeal the medical device tax, legislation to help reduce the national debt, and a bill to provide tax relief to survivors of human trafficking.
Before his election to Congress in 2004, Marchant served nine terms in the Texas House of Representatives (1987–2005) and as a councilman and mayor of Carrollton, Texas. He is succeeded in the House by Representative Beth Van Duyne (R-TX), who was sworn in with the 117th Congress.
“What a wonderful opportunity it has been to serve the people of North Texas,” Marchant said in announcing his retirement. “I want to thank them for trusting in me.”
