In March 2012, I co-authored a letter to the IRS calling for an explanation as to why select conservative nonprofit civic organizations have experienced extensive and arduous delays while applying for tax-exempt status. Last Friday, the IRS finally admitted that organizations were singled out because they included the words “tea party,” “patriot,” or “9-12 project” in their applications for tax-exempt status. As a member of the Tea Party Caucus, I find the IRS’s actions unacceptable and inexcusable.

     I am honored to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee which will proceed with a full investigation of this issue. I will continue to work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure there are protections in place so no American, regardless of political affiliation, has his or her right to free speech threatened by the IRS.

This week I had the opportunity to meet with Texas Republican Chairman Steve Munisteri, Congressman Ted Poe, and other members of the Texas Congressional delegation about the continued redistricting fight in the Texas House of Representatives.

When the 113th Session of Congress kicked off in January, I was honored to welcome in new areas to the 24th Congressional District including Addison, North Dallas, Hurst, and parts of Irving. Chairman Munisteri briefed members of the Texas Congressional delegation on the continued redistricting battle. Republicans in the Texas House proposed legislation in April that would adopt the current political maps, but Democrats promised to fight the effort. I want to thank Chairman Muisteri for his insight and wisdom on this vitally important issue in maintaining a Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Washington has a spending problem. In 2012, every $6.80 the federal government collected in taxes, it spent $10. Consequently, nearly $1 out of every $3 was borrowed. This habit is unacceptable. Small businesses and middle class families across our great Nation are required to balance their budgets while Washington continues its reckless spending habits. When President Obama took office in 2008, the National debt was $10.6 trillion. Today, that number has ballooned over sixty percent to $16.7 trillion.

This week, the House Budget Committee unveiled its budget for fiscal year 2014. Chaired by Congressman Paul Ryan, the Budget Committee created a plan that would put American back on a sound path to financial security. House Republicans have made a pledge to cut $4.6 trillion in spending and balance the budget in 10 years without raising taxes. In addition to this promise, the Republican budget would do the following:

Repeal Obamacare;

Reform entitlement programs by them more affordable and guaranteeing financial security for seniors;

Fully fund military and defense;

Cut discretionary spending;

Roll back recent tax increases with a simplified pro-growth tax reform plan; and

Approve the Keystone XL pipeline.

A balanced budget is not a new idea. It has been achieved before and it can be achieved again. Republicans have submitted a responsible plan that will put American back on a path to prosperity. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House to pass this common sense legislation.

I had the privilege of attending the Tarrant County Republican Party Lincoln Day Dinner in Hurst. This event featured Senator Rick Santorum as the evenings keynote speaker. Senator Santorum gave an inspirational speech about Texas leading the way as the conservative beacon for our country.

I want to thank the Denton County Republican Party for hosting a wonderful Lincoln-Reagan Dinner. It was an honor to sit alongside hundreds of precinct chairs, conservative activists, and elected officials to take a look back at all the accomplishments of the Denton County Republican Party during last election cycle.

     I am proud to represent two of the most conservative counties in the State of Texas. I want to thank the countless volunteers and grassroots activist who made both of these events possible. Without your hard work and effort, the Republican Party would not have the necessary funds and manpower to fight the battles against big government and out of control spending.

Dear Friends,

I want to take a moment today and thank you all for your support during this campaign. Because of all you did, I am returning to Washington to serve as your conservative voice in the House of Representatives. I am deeply honored and grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me. I pledge to you that I will continue to fight hard every day for the people of the 24th Congressional District.

With the reelection of Barack Obama and continued Democrat control of the U.S. Senate, we face very difficult and serious times ahead. Despite this, I remain committed to pushing back against the Obama Administration and their big government, far-left agenda.

Last night’s election does give us some hope. Thanks to the strong support and hard work of millions of conservatives across Texas and across the nation, we elected a new conservative leader to the U.S. Senate – Senator Ted Cruz. Also, Republicans will remain in the control of the House of Representatives for another two years. It is critical that House Republicans remain united and committed to conservative principles. We are the only thing standing between the liberal Democrats in Congress and their desire to turn America into a Euro-socialist nation. And I look forward to standing firm with my fellow conservatives in the House to hold the line against more spending and taxes.

Thank you again for all of your prayers, support, and hard work during this campaign. To all those hard working volunteers who knocked on doors and made phone calls and worked the polls and contributed financially to my campaign – I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I couldn’t have done it without you. I look forward to continuing my fight for constitutionally limited government, economic freedom, and individual liberty. It is an honor to serve you in Congress.

Best regards,

Congressman Kenny Marchant

24th District of Texas

Kenny Marchant, 61, a four-term Republican congressman from Coppell, is a staunch conservative, a loyal party-line voter on most key issues and an extremely popular elected official in District 24, covering a wide swath of Northeast Tarrant, southern Denton and western Dallas counties.

His popularity is based on long public service, including as Carrollton city councilman and mayor and nine terms in the Texas House of Representatives.

He was chairman of the House Republican Caucus in 2003 when the Legislature redrew congressional district boundaries, including a district aligned to his political strength.

Marchant is on the Ways and Means committee and its Social Security subcommittee and is a member of the House Tea Party Caucus and the Immigration Reform Caucus.

The Democratic candidate is Euless lawyer Tim Rusk.

Marchant’s experience and district ties make him a strong choice.

Dear Friends,

I want to thank Congressman Trey Gowdy of South Carolina for visiting the 24th Congressional District. As a Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Congressman Gowdy has lead the charge to hold the Obama Administration accountable for the failed Operation Fast and Furious gun running program. Fast and Furious has resulted in the death of at least one border patrol agent, Brian Terry, and hundreds of Mexican citizens. The American people and the family of Brian Terry deserve answers. I remain committed to holding Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama accountable for this botched program. To stay up to date about my campaign, please visit my Facebook page at www.facebook.com/marchantforcongress and Twitter page at https://twitter.com/marchantfortx24.
